The Kindness of Kids

Frontenac Friends,

If you have a freshman this year, please take their face in your hands, look them in the eye and tell them they did something incredibly kind today. Tell them you're proud of them. And please tell them thank you for me.

Today Seth Nutt had me pop by for a morning meeting. Morning and I, do not get along, but Seth and I do. Soooo I threw on a comfy sweatshirt and headed to the library.

In the middle of chatting about Mining Days, Brady Hill knocks on the door to Seth's office with the freshman class. I thought they were there to use the library or maybe the coffee shop. But they weren't.

As I held back tears the kids thanked me for all the positivity Hello Frontenac brings. They gave me a certificate signed by them all.

I cried. They probably thought I was crazy and I'm sure in the photo we took together I look awful… but that certificate meant so much to me. I take the photos I do of the town so that the children of our children will be able to look back on the town. To have those kids hand me that certificate meant more to me than I express.

I volunteered a lot with my husband's units when he was on active duty. I have certificates of gratitude from base commanders. They are in a box somewhere. But that certificate from those kids? It's already framed and on my wall.

You never know what's going on in people's lives. It's been a pretty long week for me. That little gesture of kindness from Seth, Brady and those kids meant the absolute world to me. I'll never forget it.

So please. If one of those babies is one of your babies, tell them they did a good job. Sheila Hill and Lisa Nutt, you raised good sons. Thank you all for today. I am so grateful. - Keesh
