The Kindness that is Kay

Frontenac friends last night I had coffee with one of you. I often do. So many of the people dearest to me are from our community. Kay Gobl though is dear to many.

Everyone loves Kay, and I'm no exception. I was meeting with her to drop off photos I had taken at her hubby's birthday party. I could have just emailed them over, but honestly I wanted to see her.

Kay makes you feel special the moment she sees you. She does it to everyone. She makes you feel like she's been waiting for you, and only you, to round the corner. Even if there's no way she was expecting you to do so.

The second she hugs you, it feels like home.

The thing is, as much as Kay is a unique angel, she stands among a choir.

Frontenac is full of amazing women like Kay. Women like Vicky Haden, Alyssa Edwards, Molly Allai, Linda Grilz, Vicki Ulepich, Sunny Zafuta, Mrs. McCartney, Cassie Rhuems, Ann Marie Krusick,… the list goes on and on. Women who helped us through childhood are walking the parenting path with us, or just are dear friends in this crazy thing that is life.

Frontenac has great women now, because we had great women before to show us the way. Our grandmothers and great-grandmothers left an example of how women are supposed to be that started with the mining strikes. Strong, outspoken, brave, and supportive of each other.

Frontenac women are that way still. Whether they have been in this community for a hundred years, or just donned their first Raider shirt last week. Our standard of loving and supporting each other is a high one, but one that has stood the test of time. I hope as I raise my daughters that people look at them in twenty years with the same love and trust that I look at so many Frontenac women with now. - Keesha
